Welcome to the NV-PIC website. We’re glad you’re here! NV-PIC was accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) on May 18, 2017. The most recent site visit occurred in 2023. The APA Commission on Accreditation (CoA) approved NV-PIC’s accreditation for 10 years. The next site visit will occur in 2033.

NV-PIC was founded as a workforce development program to help attract highly qualified intern applicants to train in Nevada and to increase retention of students who are enrolled in Nevada doctoral programs.

According to the Nevada Health Workforce publication, Health Workforce in Nevada: A Chartbook-2023 Edition, 70% of Nevada’s population lives in a primary care health professional shortage area.[1] Mental Health America[2] estimates 21.4% of adults in Nevada have a mental health disorder, 10% of those adults report being uninsured. Over 60% of adults with a mental health disorder did not receive treatment.

Mental Health America ranked Nevada as 32^nd out of 51 States (including Washington, D.C.) in terms of workforce need. It is estimated that Nevada would need 619 additional psychologists to meet the National Average. The American Psychological Association’s (APA) Center for Workforce Studies[1] notes that there were 12.2 licensed psychologists per 100,000 people living in Nevada. The National Average was 32.8 licensed psychologists per 100,000. Nevada had the 4^th lowest concentration of licensed psychologists as compared to all other states.

The US Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) projects that Nevada will need a total of 1,240 licensed psychologists to meet demand. According to the Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners, as of April 2024, there were 694 active licensees in Nevada. However, only 426 listed Nevada as their current state.

Internship Aims

The aims of the Nevada Psychology Internship Consortium (NV-PIC) are to prepare doctoral psychology interns to serve, with cultural humility, broad psychological services to underserved clients in the Nevada public behavioral health system and to retain NV-PIC graduates to continue to serve the people of Nevada.

The Nevada Psychology Internship Consortium (NV-PIC) represents the collaborative effort of training sites at two state agencies, within the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), to share resources and faculty for the purpose of providing a diversified educational program for psychology interns. NV-PIC offers a one-year, full-time doctoral internship beginning and ending in August each year. 

The 4-digit general APPIC Member Number for NV-PIC is 2323.

• Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS): SNAMHS offers two internship tracks, an Inpatient Assessment & Intervention track and a Forensic Evaluation track. The tracks are described further in the NV-PIC brochure (below) and on the SNAMHS page.
• Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) (Inpatient Assessment & Intervention track): 2323-11 (1-2 positions)
• Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) (Forensic Evaluation track): 2323-15 (1-2 positions)
• Rural Clinics – Carson City (RCCC): The APPIC Program Code for RCCC is 2323-14.*

* Please note: for the 2024-2025 year, Rural Clinics Mental Health – Carson City will be inactive. Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services will be the only site accepting applications. Applying to NV-PIC

The consortium currently offers 3 full-time internship positions. Applicants may apply to as many sites/tracks within the consortium as they wish. Each consortium site/tracks has its own unique Match number, so applicants are able to rank sites or tracks according to their preference.
